The calculator first reduces the input to a canonical rise/run ratio — either from a rise and run pair (any single length unit; the unit cancels) or from a direct slope entry converted exactly from in/ft, mm/m, percent or degrees. The GSD thresholds are keyed to the definitional in/ft column, and every other representation is an exact conversion of it — GSD2 is 1.0417 %, not the rounded 1 % of field shorthand. The achieved ratio is then tested against each threshold with a float-tolerant comparison, so a slope defined exactly at a boundary (1 in over 16 ft) counts as meeting it regardless of the conversion path. Output is the highest designation met, the achieved slope, the target minimum and the margin in your report unit (in/ft by default), with PASS/FAIL against the target — GSD2, the SD-2.4.3.3 recommended minimum drainage slope, unless you select otherwise. A slope that meets GSD0 but not the recommended minimum draws an explicit warning naming the highest designation met, so a technically-passing shallow target is never mistaken for good practice on a line that is meant to drain.
